           Kathleen Chaney, affectionately known as, “The Rock Lady of Idyllwild,” resides in the San Jacinto mountains in the town of Idyllwild, California, USA.  She has resided there for over 28 years as a resident artist creating many mediums, such as her collectable one-of-a-kind hand painted rocks.  Painting rocks is her favorite art medium; but applying her artistic talents are also evident in her illustrations, paintings, book covers, book illustrations, cartooning, hand-made jewelry, posters, murals, soft sculpture, sculpture, multi-media, collages, and just about any creative venture that catches her attention.

     Kathleen’s 2900+ rocks have been cataloged in her personal journal by serial number, location where each rock was found, any story associated with the rock, and the adoptees owner.  The rocks are also signed by the artist.  You can navigate through the “Adopted” pages to view the rocks that have new homes, and sure to be passed down to future generations.

       Every year, beginning in the spring, there are a number of well-attended events on the mountain.  The Art Alliance, www.artinidyllwild.com renown for its Art Walk and Wine Tasting in October; the Jazz Festival in August (Kathleen has exhibited at this event for over 10 years); Chamber of Commerce http://www.idyllwildchamber.com events; all in the beautiful mountains of Idyllwild.  Information and dates of these events will be posted on the blog page of this website.  The local newspaper http://www.towncrier.com will also provide information about each of the events throughout the year.






      





     A renowned artistically inclined documentary filmmaker, Joel Hochberg www.hochsdocs.com, is preparing a documentary on Kathleen and her passion for the arts; with a focus on her rock art and her reputation as being referred to as “The Rock Lady of Idyllwild.”  You can view a “teaser” clip of the documentary on the “My Documentary” page of this website.  The premiere of the full version of the documentary is scheduled for the fall of 2009 at the Rancho Mirage Public Library www.ranchomiragelibrary.org.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Updates regarding the documentary will be posted on the blog page.
